the freezing cold temperatures results in some homeless deaths over the past few nights. at least five homeless people have died over the last two weeks. the most recent death happened behind an empty storefront on village parkway in dublin. police found the body of a man at around 12:30 friday afternoon. many outreach workers we spoke with say they are working hard to steer people into shelters. since november 28th, four homeless men died while out in the cold in santa clara county. three where living in homeless encampments.one in an open air garage.

the deadly asiana airline jet crash at s-f-o. >>anny: federal investigators to interview dozens of experts and witnesses this week to try to determine what caused the deadly airplane jet crashed at sfo. officials with the national transportation safety board already have named several possible factors in the crash that left three dead and 181 injured. those include problems with the boeing 7-7-7's automatic throttle and communications issues among the cockpit crew of the south korean airline. but even if the board's hearing tuesday and wednesday in d.c., tightens the focus on those factors, many experts already believe human error was to blame. 49ers got a huge victory

major league baseball's lawyer say in a court filing that the oakland athletics' request to move to san jose was actually turned out in june by commissioner bud selig. that decision does come to light in a statement filed friday in the u.s. district court in san jose part of a lawsuit filed by the city against the major league baseball. it says " major league baseball denied the athletics relocation request on june 17th to one day before this lawsuit was filed. " on that date, that commissioner selig formally noticed that judge notified the athletics on a ship that he was not satisfied with the club's relocation proposal. the merger of american airlines and us airways has formed an air travel giant larger than the current industry leader,united continental holdings.-- the deal cleared a series of legal hurdles, including an antitrust lawsuit from the justice department. the new company will be called american airlines. passengers likely will not see effects of the merger immediately. they will continue to book flights under the american airlines and us airways brands. ticketing and frequent flier programs are expected to be combined, at the earliest, in 2014.

eight major tech giants, many from the bay area, have called for tighter controls on government surveillance. the companies, including google, facebook and twitter are joining forces to argue there should be reforms in the way the united states snoops on people. they issued an open letter to president barack obama, saying that while governments have a duty to protect citizens, recent revelations have "highlighted the urgent need to reform government surveillance practices worldwide."

the letter follow revelations by former national security agency contractor edward snowden, who leaked details of the secret programs that critics say violate privacy rights. the nation's largest gay rights group says corporate support for gay and transgender workers is reaching new corners of the country. the human rights campaign found that more than two- thirds of fortune 500 companies and 90 percent of all the large employers it surveyed are now offering spousal benefits to the same-sex domestic partners of their employees. the group's 12th annual corporate equality index also found a record number of businesses adopting policies prohibiting discrimination against transgender workers and job applicants. watching gas prices this
